Internetworking with the intelligent optical layer

چکیده
1.A. Traditional Optical Transport Network View The provisioning of high-speed bandwidth within the traditional optical transport network (OTN) is basically static, an approach that is referred to as the provisioned bandwidth service (PBS) business model. For network operators it is a slow and painstaking operation that requires considerable manual configuration and, in many cases, forces a costly redesign of optical network internals. In the PBS model, electrical devices such as Internet Protocol (IP) routers are connected to optical networks by standard OC-n/STM-n interfaces (STM, synchronous transfer mode). In general the control plane of the traditional OTN is implemented by centralized operation systems and manually intensive procedures. This approach has the following limitations:

This document discusses how inter-domain routing using Shared Risk Group (SRG) may be used for computing diverse paths, and also discusses the extensions that we propose for routing (and eventually signaling) protocols. The concepts proposed in this document are useful to provide the requested intelligent control plane for multi-layered networks. Notice: This contribution has been created to as...

متن کاملThe Application of Multi-Layer Artificial Neural Networks in Speckle Reduction (Methodology)
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) uses the spatial and temporal coherence properties of optical waves backscattered from a tissue sample to form an image. An inherent characteristic of coherent imaging is the presence of speckle noise. In this study we use a new ensemble framework which is a combination of several Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) neural networks to denoise OCT images. The noise is...
متن کاملGMPLS-Based Control Plane for Optical Networks: Early Implementation Experience
Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) extends MPLS signaling and Internet routing protocols to provide a scalable, interoperable, distributed control plane, which is applicable to multiple network technologies such as optical cross connects (OXCs), photonic switches, IP routers, ATM switches, SONET and DWDM systems. It is intended to facilitate automatic service provisioning and dy...
متن کاملLink Management Requirements
The need for faster detection and restoration of faults and degradations is essential in the optical networks due to the amount of traffic being carried by them. This calls for tighter control on the detection and reporting mechanisms. In this document we analyze the requirements event communications between the active and passive devices, which in turn can be used by the optical control plane....
